Affirmations

Hello!

Before I share a little self-care activity to support enhancing your inner connection, I have a confession to make:

I used to hate affirmations (for two reasons).

1)  It felt like lying to myself.  Sometimes the words felt so far from my truth that it was hard to connect to.  While my voice was saying the words, my inner critic was giving an eye roll and had a come back statement to each.

Affirmation:  “I am loving and loveable.”
Inner critic:  “Oh yeah?  What about that time you snapped at your husband?  And if only people knew all of you, you wouldn’t be that loveable then.”

The end result of saying an affirmation was irritation and further disconnection from myself.

2)  It felt like denying something in myself.  I knew there was something playing out under the surface and to gloss over that darker part of myself without fully hearing what it was there to tell me, felt dishonoring.  I do not believe everything is all love and light nor that just being (or faking) positivity is helping anything.  It’s like putting sprinkles on a poop pie.

Since taking a deeper look at this inner critic and what she was trying to tell me, what I have begun to love about affirmations is they can actually connect us to that part inside us who knows the truth about ourselves.

The real truth.

I now see affirmations as speaking something into existence that interrupts the default pattern of the inner self-talk.

And sometimes, when we can’t quite get there because the inner critic is just too loud, a “bridge” can be helpful.  Below are some affirmations I love and below that are some of what I call “bridge” affirmations for crappier times that can help open up a little space of possibility between our current state and our soul truth.

So wherever you are at today, consider using these affirmations as access to a lighter space, or a deeper,  more loving and honoring connection with ALL of yourself.
